About Fiber Picks

In 2018 I moved from Chicago to Kansas City and spent the next five years working through ISPs across two addresses. Fiber, cable, DSL, and satellite all got a real run. Six providers total. Each comparison here includes logged speed numbers by time of day, install-day friction notes, and a plan-versus-actual-bill breakdown. The promo rate that looks reasonable in September rarely survives month 13.

The goal is to help remote workers and small-business owners find out what's actually available at their specific address. Mid-size metros are different from cities. A 9 AM upload when the neighborhood wakes up tells you more than any "up to" number, and a billing statement with a line item that never came up in the sales call tells you even more.

Some links here are affiliate links. If you sign up for an internet plan after clicking through, the ISP pays me a small referral fee. You pay nothing extra, and the comparison list does not change because of it. I only cover providers I have personally signed up for or that someone close to me currently runs on.
