For a typical household, that 35 Mbps might seem fine until you try to work from home. Availability and Infrastructure
Of course, the best fiber plan in the world doesn’t matter if it doesn’t reach your driveway. The AT&T Fiber footprint currently spans 21 states, with approximately 25 million homes passed. Spectrum has a wider overall reach because cable lines have been in the ground for decades, but AT&T has been aggressive about their rollout. If you are in one of those 25 million homes, the choice usually comes down to whether you value that symmetrical upload speed.
If you're in an area where AT&T hasn't reached yet, you might look at Frontier, which offers an AT&T Fiber maximum speed tier of up to 5 Gig in some markets. For those in more rural pockets of the KC suburbs, Brightspeed is often the only alternative to cable, though their fiber rollout is still catching up to their legacy DSL areas. Performance Under Pressure: The Jitter Factor
During a mid-winter cold snap a few months ago, I started logging my connection quality every hour. But if you care about billing transparency—knowing that your bill won't jump by thirty bucks next year—and you need the reliability for professional video calls, AT&T Fiber is the clear winner.
